The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
