Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer behind many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
