The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I want up in that moment except for George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
