This situation requires a firm reaction from European leadership. Although certain leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have been blunt in their pushback, others—like the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer—have continued with a policy of attempting to appease the White House.

On Tuesday, a Downing Street spokesperson refused to push back on Trump's comments about Europe or his renewed attack on the mayor of London.
