US actor Pat Finn, who featured in beloved television series such as Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has succumbed aged 60.

The comedic improv actor passed away at his residence in Los Angeles, California this Monday having undergone treatment for a cancer diagnosis beginning in 2022, as reported by media reports.

"He never met a stranger - only friends he didn't know yet," his family shared in a announcement.

They noted that he had "lived his life fully - with joy and exuberance".

A Notable TV Career

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in the mid-90s, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He also had a repeating character on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He starred as Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in the late 90s, portraying a party host who would assign burdensome jobs to his guests.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on several popular shows, such as:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons over nearly a decade.

His cinematic roles include It's Complicated and "Santa Paws 2".

Beyond the Screen

Outside of his on-screen roles, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and served as an educator at the Colorado university, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe called Beer Shark Mice.

"Pat guided, supported, and advised countless students during his career and it's nearly impossible to find someone anywhere who has anything negative to say about him," his relatives stated.

Paying homage, fellow actor Richard Kind noted there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote on social media.

Finn is remembered by his spouse Donna, his children, and his family.
